Clinical aspects of osteoporosis, diabetes, obesity, and lipid disorders:

The effect of dietary constituents on lipid profiles, endothelial function and the development of type 2 diabetes.

Currently studying the use of Raloxifen, an estrogen/antiestrogen compound that preserves bone mineral mass, for the prevention of breast cancer. Also studying methods of motivating patients to comply with their diabetes regimen, including diet.

Future plans to explore ways to teach food plans and shopping skills to patients with non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus and the effect of mono unsaturated fatty acids on lipids.

Evaluating data from six years of obesity therapy to find factors that determine success. A randomized trial of a partial protein supplementation fasting program and a total protein supplemented fasting program are two therapies being evaluated.

And also, developing protocols for the medical and dietary management of patients with lipid disorders and conducting studies on intensive therapy for lipid disorders vs. conventional therapy to determine if the outcome in these patients measured by lipid levels at one and two years is significantly different using different therapeutic methods.
