Research Interests

Dr. Villalobos's research will address physiological regulation and toxicological modulation of nutrient transport in the choroid plexus. She will use in vitro and in vivo models to elucidate the impact of dietary exposure to heavy metals, like cadmium, on brain development in young animals. She is studying the role of MAP kinases and oxidative stress on nutrient transport and plans to determine if dietary zinc supplementation reverses the negative effects of cadmium on choline transport
