Melena McClure

1. What was your previous degree?

B.S. in Biochemistry 2005

2. Where did you do your undergraduate degree?

The University of Texas at Austin

3. Why did you choose Texas A&M University?

Texas A&M offers a unique program in nutrition that I find particularly appealing. I am also here thanks to a recommendation from Dr. Carstens when I took his summer ANSC 318 class that I pursue nutrition.

4. Why did you choose to major in Nutrition?

My first biochemistry class focused on metabolism, and in that class I discovered that metabolism was very interesting to me. So I become interested in nutrition, and nutritional biochemistry as it applies to companion animals.

5. Do you like living in College Station, TX? What is the best thing about living here?

Well, it's a little strange moving to such a small place. I'm originally from Houston, so I downsized to Austin, and now I've downsized yet again. College Station has such a small town feel so I am enjoying how friendly people are in this community, and how close I am to school.

6. Who is your major professor?

Dr. John Bauer

7. What research are you doing?

I currently do not have a project, but Dr. Bauer's lab works on lipid metabolism in companion animals.

8. What advice would you give to a student who is thinking about coming to Texas A&M?

Find your niche and meet as many people as you can to help enrich your experience here.
