Vision and Mission

Mission:

The mission of the Faculty of Nutrition is to organize and maintain an effective and balanced interdisciplinary unit for excellence in research, education, and outreach regarding Nutrition Programs within the Texas A&M University System and within the state of Texas. The faculty facilitates interactions among nutrition faculty and those in related disciplines to develop new scientific knowledge and new applications of existing nutritional principles by virtue of providing educational and investigate opportunities for graduate education.

Vision:

The vision of the Faculty of Nutrition is to be recognized as a comprehensive Nutrition Graduate Program that is nationally ranked among the top ten land-grant nutrition programs. Given the diversity of the Nutrition Faculty and their broadly based programs we feel that this vision is attainable.

Our goal is consistent with the Vision 2020 Plan of Texas A&M University (TAMU) which has articulated its goal to “continue the academic evolution of Texas A&M University so that it is generally considered one of the ten best public universities in America by 2020, while maintaining or even enhancing, the unique features that make Texas A&M University distinctive”. As a part of Vision 2020 initiative, the university has budgeted two million dollars for a Life Sciences Initiative. The Nutrition Faculty will participate in this emerging initiative.

In addition, TAMU has recently increased its level of participation in consortium with the National Space Biomedical Research Institute (NSBRI) of NASA and other research universities.

It is out Vision as the TAMU Faculty of Nutrition that comprehensive training in nutrition across the broad range of disciplines and in multiple venues requires a diverse approach such as that which presently exits in our interdisciplinary faculty structure.
