Advisory Committee and Degree Plan

Graduate students are required to assemble a graduate committee of participating faculty. The student’s advisory committee for the master’s degree will consist of no fewer than three members of the graduate faculty representative of the student’s field of study and research. The chair or one of the co-chairs of the advisory committee must be from the student’s major department and at least one or more of the members must be from a department other than the student’s major department. For the doctorate degree program, the student’s advisory committee will consist of no fewer than four members of the graduate faculty representative of the student’s field of study and research, where the chair or co-chair must be from the student’s  department, and at least one or more of the members must be from a department other than the student’s major department. A Graduate Council Representative (GCR) will be appointed to the student’s advisory committee by the Office of Graduate Studies, at the time of approval of the degree plan. Decisions relating to the degree plan, essentially constituting the courses to be applied toward a particular degree are determined by the student and the student’s advisory committee.
